I knew Joan in the early '90's, when she was working on her PhD. I was active in the Officers' Wives' Club at Ft. Belvoir VA, and she came and spoke at a luncheon and interviewed some of the wives. She was such a lovely, calm person. When you spoke with her, she made you feel like you were the most important thing she could be doing, and focused her attention on you. We lost touch, and I was shocked to read of her death in the newspaper. She was forward thinking about the role of women and wives in the military. This is a loss, and I will pray for her children, husband, and extended famiy.
