Obituary of Joan Irene Biddle

Joan Biddle of Herndon, Virginia passed away after a long battle with cancer on 28APR2015. She is survived by her husband of over forty years, John Biddle, and her three children Jim, Joan, and Julia. Joan was a determined woman who was a bright light to all those who knew her. Not being one to ever listen to naysayers, Joan became the first person ever in her family to graduate from college, and then went on to become a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army. Still not willing to settle, Joan went on to earn a Ph.D. from Boston University which she used to become one of the nation's first online distance learning professors. Joan eventually retired from the USAR as a Lieutenant Colonel after twenty-seven years of military service, but continued to serve as a volunteer with the USO. Joan was a lifelong Catholic and will be remembered during a viewing at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church in Sterling, VA from 6-8pm on Thurs. April 30, 2015, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10am Fri May 1, 2015. Interment will take place at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
