Please share a memory of Lawrence to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lawrence John Alciati, Jr. (age 65) died peacefully on May 12 at his home in Reston VA, surrounded by family and friends after a 9 month battle with pancreatic cancer. John was born in Syracuse NY to Lawrence and Sarah Alciati and is survived by his wife, Marianne; his brother Bill (and fiancé Sandra); and his nephews Cook (and fiancé Dafna) and Nick. After graduating from Georgetown University in 1971, John pursued advanced studies in biostatistics and began a successful career in health research and communications, including positions at Tracor, JRB (SAIC), CDP, the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute, and as co-owner of Prospect Associates. After selling the business, John devoted himself to his passions, serving as the President and CEO of the Greater Reston Arts Center (GRACE) and volunteering at the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary in Wellfleet MA. In addition to his love of the arts and his passion for nature, John was an outstanding cook and consummate entertainer. If you met John, you would never forget him; his love of life, extensive knowledge, quick and clever wit, and glint of mischief was both captivating and infectious. John was among the most generous and loving of friends and in his presence you would feel you were the most important person in his life. John leaves the gift of having loved and influenced so many, so well. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 30, 11:00am at St. Thomas a Becket Catholic Church in Reston VA. Memorial services also to be held at the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary on Cape Cod at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either, The Greater Reston Arts Center, 12001 Market St. #103, Reston, VA 20190 or the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, PO Box 236, South Wellfleet, MA 02663.
