Obituary of John R. Akre

John Ruben (Jack) Akre, 84, of Ashburn died Wednesday, October 28, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife (Doris) and his brother (Wayne). Survivors include four daughters, Kathryn and husband David Carpenter, Dianna Barton, Debra and husband Michael Barrett, Brenda Akre, and one son John Akre Jr; six grandchildren;eight great-grandchildren;many nieces and nephews; and many good friends. Jack was born on February 22nd, 1931 in Crooks, South Dakota to Verna and Ruben Akre. He moved to McLean, VA at a early age, he became a life member of the McLean VFD and is a veteran of the United States Coast Guard. In 1955 he was appointed as a firefighter with the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department and served 27 years before retiring at the rank of Battalion Chief. The family will receive friends at Adams Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden Street, Herndon, VA on Sunday, November 1, 2015 from 2-6 PM and where Services will be on Monday November 2nd at 11am. Burial will follow at Andrew Chapel Cemetery, Vienna VA. The family suggest memorials be made to the McLean Volunteer Fire Department to benefit both the organization and the community he loved.
