We have never met and probably never will but I would like to pay my respect nevertheless; and offer my condolences for your loss. Stephanie's passing away came as a shock to me, I felt something was wrong as the last 6 weeks she did not respond in her usual way ; she told me some months ago a caugh was giving her some trouble -but she had treatment and responded positive she said- , she also told me her eyes did not work as before, but I never had a clue things were as bad as they turned out to be.
By now you must have guessed that I'm a foreigner, I'm from CSC Netherlands and in my international calls I spoke with Stephanie since many years; we only met in person 3 years ago and she was the warm person I felt she was when earlier speaking with her over the phone. Knowledgable, true to her word when promising to follow something up. In the project CSC started something more then 3 years ago there were two persons who I turned to when I needed more in depth information on my area (cost centers) : Michelle Greenburg and Stephanie.
Stephanie took care of a significant portion of CSC's cost centers as GIS is a major part of CSC; and she did this well, contributing to the concept of this project and able to translate that into the requirements and communicating this to her collegues. Always available for a call, scheduled or not, always helpful -and this sounds awfull- until a few weeks before her passing away.
I feel guilty in hindsight asking her for help when she was in the position as I learned recently she must have been in. I can only hope she divided her time and energy fair to you, husband and kids.
I have had other collegues passing away, can't explain why Stephanie's bother me more then other's; the fact it came unexpected (for me) sure counts but the fact she was a warm and nice collegue counts even more I'd say. I have good memories on her and her name will remain in my thoughts for a good time.
That leaves you with an empty chair around the table, a missing companion, a missing mother and I cannot even imagine how that feels; if she was the warm person at home as she was in her profession this hurts and will hurt for some time. Eventually the pain will be less and happy thoughts remain; you will remember the good things and I wish you much strength in that process.
