I only knew Carol for a short time as we lived in the same condo building these past 2 years. We would greet each other in the hallway, lobby or elevator and Carol would always have a cheery hello and her sweet grin that would always brighten my day. I will miss that smile but remember the courage she had till the end which was remarkable. God Bless You Carol !!!

Carol was an inspiration to me at Herndon elementary as she allowed this lowly special education teacher to Co teach in her classroom. She was an awesome teacher and helped me to become a more powerful teacher as well. She will be greatly missed but always in my heart.

Carol was the dearest, sweetest person I ever knew. It was such an honor to be her friend. My life will be forever enriched by her love and courage and laughter. It was a privilege to get to know Carol who had a profound influence on me. Carol was a sweet, gentle women who viewed life through a positive lens. However, this sweet gentle woman was one of the bravest individuals who has touched my life. She maintained her interest in life up to the end, and she faced death with a strength and courage that exceed any words that I can express.

You will be so missed. We always enjoyed our visits when we could be together in N. VA - at the games, dinners. You always made us feel so special and that is why you always had a special place in our hearts. Love you Carol.

Carol will be missed by all who knew her. She touched so many lives , I am so glad that I was one of them. She was a dear friend. I learned so much from her about teaching, she was a wonderful mentor. I enjoyed her happy and loving ways. We always had fun and she always had a bright smile on her face. Knowing she is in a better place is comforting, I just know how much she will be missed here. XO

I am so sad to lose my dear friend Carol. She was always so cheerful and pleasant. Carol and I talked about heaven. We agreed that all the men there look and behave like George Clooney and you can have crab cakes on demand. Enjoy Carol !

Karl Bittner made a donation to CAPITAL HOSPICE
During this difficult time I would like to extend my most heartfelt sympathies. I met Carol the year I moved to Virginia while I worked at Herndon Elementary School in 2001. That year she often substituted in my classroom and I was always pleased to leave my students in her capable hands. Carol was a wonderful woman: kind, caring, and so generous. She even ended up purchasing two couches from me when she heard I was moving and needed to sell them! Years later when my first son was born we got back in touch and exchanged Christmas cards each December. She was always so excited to see the changes in the boys, signing her cards and emails as "Grandma Carol"; I will miss her greatly and remember her fondly.
