We first got to know Helen in the late 1980s and early 1990s. She was then, and always remained, one of the most thoughtful and passionate advocates for her community, and her county and its creeks. We are poorer for her passing. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family.

I have known Helen and Bill Casey since they moved to Sterling Park in the 1960's. We became fast friends and worked together to solve many local community issues including obtaining a retaining wall from VDOT along route 7 in front of the homes located there including the Casey's. Later Helen would help me get elected to the Board of Supervisors from Broad Run District becoming the very first suburban supervisor in Loudoun history in 1968. In 1971 when I decided to seek a new seat in the state senate , Helen and her family were at my side every step of the way. Later I recruited Helen as my Administrative Assistant in my Sterling Office where she pretty much ran the office for several years until she decided to follow her own calling as Chairman of The Goose Creek Scenic River Advisory Commission. Since I was sponsor of the Goose Creek and Catoctin Creeks Scenic River acts we continued to work closely together. I remember Helen and Bill would come down to Richmond each remaining session I served to observe the senate committees on which I served and subsequent floor debates. I believe the last time we were all together was at the Thomas Balch Library where I received a special award for my years of personal and legislative support of history and preservation throughout Loudoun County and the Commonwealth of Virginia. Helen and Bill were proudly in attendance.
Helen Casey was indeed a special lady who will be missed by all. In time, her family and friends may become accustomed to not having Helen among us but we shall never forget her good and cheerful way of life.
