Obituary of Sarah Elizabeth Apollony

Sarah (Sally) Elizabeth Apollony, née: McDonough, 62, of Ashburn, VA, passed away on March 11th, 2016. Born on June 3rd, 1953, Sarah was the daughter of the late Betty and John McDonough. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved mother-in-law, Mary Apollony. Sarah honorably served the Peace Corps in Africa during her college years and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in cartography, ultimately finding great success as a Program Manager for TASC, Inc. She helped raise four children and selflessly devoted herself to family, friends and her corgis Charlie, Scout and Lucky. She will be remembered for her kindness, wisdom, passion, and ability to bring out the best in others. The marriage of Sarah and John is a real love story. They were inseparable. She is survived by her husband John, stepchildren John Apollony, Ashley Adair, and Todd Bowers, and seven siblings, John McDonough, Tom McDonough, Mary Propper, Catherine McDonough, Susan McDonough, Anne Aderman and Ellen Anderson. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on April 7th, 2016 at Adams Green Funeral Home in Herndon, VA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on April 8th, 2016 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Ashburn, VA with Father Guest officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Leesburg.
