Uncle Lou Tepedino is one of -- I believe 13 Tepedino children ... born in Brooklyn, NY in 1917, he moved to Hawaii in 1940 to stand in for the Tepedino family at one of his brothers' weddings in Honolulu ... he stayed; Lou fell in love both with Hawaii, and the daughter of a Bank of Hawaii senior Director, eventually marrying her, but not till after Pearl Harbor happened ... Lou was a communications specialist, whose boss was a crotchety Navy Lt Commander, when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor ... back in those days, communications gear consisted of big vacuum tubes, and other vulnerable to salt sea humidity which would destroy the commo gear if left laid up and exposed to the elements aboard ships, so when the ships came in from missions, Lou's job was to pull all the radio equipment from the ships, move it to the controlled storage area where it could be cleaned and kept out of the humid elements until next the ships moved out on cruise ... on 7 DEC 1941, Lou was rushing onto Pearl harbor as all hexx broke loose ... he used to crack that it was his easiest day of travel to work ... everybody else was fleeing OFF Pearl, so he had nobody in the way going ONTO Pearl ... while he had to go issue radios for the ships that would be sailing straight away to fight ... his wife pre-deceased him many years ago, but Lou has a bevy of nieces and nephews - COL (RET) Tom Molino and his 2 (also retired US Army COL brothers) are sons of Uncle Lou's sister, Mary Molino ... as a Pearl Harbor survivor, the US Navy brought Lou to HQ Department of Navy, where, he was an old icon and "lucky charm" if you will, for the Navy ... Lou retired a GS-13, and lived quite comfortably across in Maryland ... he was one of my oldest clients at Morgan Stanley, in fact, the Molino brothers left it to me to finally put Uncle Lou in a nursing home in Fairfax, Va ... he could still drive, but he would get lost very quickly, and would have to be rescued by one of the Molino brothers, from up near Baltimore, or somewhere else well away from the beltway, wherever he would turn up and call-in from ... Uncle Lou was pretty mad at me the day I literally dropped him off in his room at the nursing home, took his car keys away from him, and walked away ... it just had to be done ... hadn't seen Lou since we moved from No Va, but have stayed abreast, loosely, with emails from COL Tom Molino -- with whom I served while we were at Ft Campbell (he commanded 2 Armored Cavalry Regiment and did a WarFighter exercise with 101st Airborne Div at Ft Lewis, Washington, when I was Chief of War Plans), and then when I served in DAMO SSW, COL Molino was Director of DAMO-SSP (DAMO-SSW -- Department of the Army Staff, War Plans Division; and DAMO-SSP -- DA Staff, Strategy and Policy Division). Anyways, Uncle Lou is a very, very good man ... almost saint-like - angelic ... he had a laugh that was just like the Pillsbury dough boy in the old commercials -- so sweet ... good-hearted, happy-go-lucky, married the Hawaiian Banker's daughter, and lived long and happily together ... anyways, Louis Tepedino will always be one of the finest male examples of the human race that God ever made ... please reme

God has blessed Uncle Lou throughout his long and happy life (99 years old this year?) ... dang, he has been a splendid example of being a GREAT American -- when next I visit Hawaii, I'll be sure to look up his plot at Diamond Head, and say a prayer ... as I do with my own grandparents, back home ... and, since I have a brother who is a priest, we'll get some additional mass intentions to load Uncle Lou's boat! From Brooklyn, to Pearl Harbor, to HQ, Department of the Navy, to Uncle for the extended Tepedino clan ... hoo-friggin-ah! What a dear and wonderful man ... God bless Uncle Lou, and all my very best to your brothers and extended family,
From Camp Shorab, Washir District, Helmand Province ...
furthermost outpost of the American Republic,
v/r, Mike deMayo
