Obituary of Louis A. Tepedino

Louis A. Tepedino, 99 and a Pearl Harbor Survivor, passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 11, 2016 at Arden Courts of Annandale, VA. Born in 1917, in Brooklyn, NY, the second youngest of 13 children, Mr. Tepedino moved to Honolulu, HI, in 1941. He was married to Mary Luis Tepedino from 1967 until her death in March of 2000. Although they had no children of their own, they were loved and respected by 32 nieces and nephews, 29 of whom survive his passing. An avid reader, Mr. Tepedino acquired an extensive education through job-related college courses, and personal research. In 1941, at Pearl Harbor, Mr. Tepedino began his more than 40-year career as a U.S. Navy Civilian employee, rising from Laborer status to GS 13. Having moved to the DC area in 1959, he lived in Oxon Hill, MD, and was a Systems Analyst in the Navy's Bureau of Yards and Docks, Alexandria, VA, when he retired. He was commended for his job performance many times throughout his career and was Hawaii's Federal Employee of the Year on multiple occasions. However, he was most proud of the citation for his actions during and in the aftermath of the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. As one of his last official actions, he authored a part of the official Navy history of the Bureau of Yards and Docks. On June 5, 2016, 5:00 to 7:00 PM: there will be a viewing and prayer service at Adams-Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden St. Herndon VA. Mr. Tepedino will be buried next to his wife, Mary, in Diamond Head Memorial Park, Honolulu, HI, on June 10, 2016, following a viewing at 11:00 and a 11:30 Funeral Mass both at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Honolulu, Hawaii.
