Obituary of Robert John Lynch
Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On June 21, 2016, Robert J. Lynch passed away at Medstar Georgetown Hospital after an unexpected but short illness.
Rob was born May 7, 1973, in Oklahoma into a military family, which moved often before settling in Northern Virginia. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and embarked on a nearly 20-year career in the federal government employed by various agencies.
Rob was best friend and beloved husband to Pauline and a devoted and doting father to their two children, Christopher and Kirsten. He is also survived by his parents, Patrick and Patricia Lynch; a sister, Stephanie (David) Montgomery; and both his and Pauline’s extended families. His sister, Paula, predeceased him.
A resident of Fairfax VA and US Civil War enthusiast, Rob could often be found in the summer at the Antietam Battlefield in Sharpsburg MD giving tours in his fully authentic Confederate regalia. He shared his knowledge and study of US Civil War history with colleagues, friends and family by telling stories and giving tours to historic locations in VA and MD. Rob was also a dedicated family man, the master chef (of his house)--cooking often for loved ones and friends--and loved camping with his family, especially near battlefields and in the Adirondack Mountains of NY. Ever looking for ways to improve his life skills, he was a self-taught home improver and took flying lessons, eventually soloing. Rob cared deeply for his friends and family and gave of himself whenever needed.
Donations may be made in Rob’s memory to the Civil War Trust. http://www.civilwar.org/take-action/
