Barbara Sue Van Meers. In the early morning hours of July 13, 2016, Sue peacefully passed away in her Ashburn, Virginia home, comforted by family. Sue was 74 years old. Born Barbara Sue Dunlap in South Charleston, West Virginia, May 30, 1942. Always proud of her West Virginia heritage, she stayed close to fellow classmates from St. Albans High School, rarely missing her class’s many reunions over the years. She was a devoted Mountaineer. Sue and her family relocated to Northern Virginia in 1972. At the time of her passing, Sue was employed by the Office of the Chief Financial Officer for the District of Columbia, and worked as a Human Resources Consultant managing special recruiting projects. Sue was the co-founder of Mayfair Associates, Inc. and owner for 26 years. A boutique recruiting firm, Sue built her business by developing relationships with people. She was always recruiting and looking to help people find better opportunities while providing businesses with qualified talent. Sue was an active member of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Herndon, Virginia for more than 40 years. Most recently, she was committed to the Church’s “Gifts to Glorify the Lord” project to restore the pipe organ. Sue was preceded in death by her sister, Martha “Marty” Burke, July 31, 2015. Sue is survived by her loving and devoted husband Louis Van Meers, her sister Jamie Cheney of Avondale, Pennsylvania and brother, Thomas Dunlap of Peachtree City, Georgia. Three children: Jeff Cody and his wife Jeannine, of Reston, Virginia, Lisa Cody-Smith of Leesburg, Virginia, and Joe Cody of The Plains, Virginia. Grandson Cody Smith, and granddaughters Darby Smith, Jill Cody and Jacqueline Cody. Great-grandson Cody O’Banion. Three step-children: Michael Van Meers, and his wife Jeanette, Karen Walker and husband Rick, and Jeffrey Van Meers, and wife Debbie. Seven step-grandchildren: Shannon Taylor, Sherry Van Meers, Samantha Walker, Sean Walker, Taylor Van Meers, Dylan Van Meers and Ryan Van Meers. Step great-grandsons Jacob Taylor and Caleb Burke, and step great granddaughter Isabelle Burke. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of Sue’s life will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at St. Timothy’s Episcopal in Herndon, Virginia, beginning at noon. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. The church is located at 432 Van Buren Street, Herndon, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to St. Timothy’s, with a notation “Organ Fund in Memory of Sue.”
