Although this condolence is more than a year late, I'm compelled to write it because of the GREAT memories I have of Mrs. Brown. As a Cadet, I was able to spend time in her home learning to cook, time in her "Cadetiquette" classes and also had the pleasure of going on a couple of blind dates arranged by her! I still use cooking skills taught in her home at West Point. My most memorable social activity was a trip to NYC, set up by Mrs. Brown, for 10 or so Cadets. She volunteered us to be escorts at the Slovakian American Debutante Ball - what a couple of days. My fellow escorts each have 5-10 stories of that experience and when we get together, we still talk about them - 40+ years later!!
I had no idea of all that Mrs. Brown had done in life. I'm sorry that's the case. Let me end by saying I'm so glad to have known her and learned from her. Every classmate I have will say the same thing. What a great lady. What a great American. I'm grateful for her.

Barbara was the first '44 classmate wife I met. It was at a party at her house that I went to with my date, Doug Kinnard. It was, as all her many parties were, terrific. When Doug and I were married 3 years later, I had been to many of her great parties and gotten to know her well. In fact, she insisted that I wear her beautiful Belgian lace veil at my wedding. Doug and I were lucky enough to be stationed with the Browns several times over the years and Barbara never changed. She was a superb cook, marvelous hostess, and generous friend, I shall always remember her with love and admiration and thankfulness for our 65-year friendship.

My sympathy to the family for the passing of such a grand lady. I was one of the cadets she nurtured at West Point. I'll never forget the parties she hosted; the cooking classes she sponsored (and yes, I still have her recipes in a beat up old folder and use them frequently); all of the kind things she did for the cadets; and for her hospitality to my fiancé (now my wife) when she visited West Point. What I cherish most is how she made each one of us feel like a member of her extended family. One of the best memories of her is the Cadet Etiquette Class she taught during Beast Barracks. My group came straight from Bayonet training on the Plain to the classroom where she had several place settings with every eating implement you could imagine laid out perfectly. We came in all hot and sweaty and she took it in stride and taught us a most memorable class. To this day whenever I sit down to a formal dinner I am confident that I'll make her proud. I consider myself lucky to have been one of her cadets and grieve her passing.

We think of Barbara as a true example of a life well lived. Barbara served so many with her welcoming smile, sense of duty, love of life, and committment to family. It may be time for her to take a place in heaven and live in eternal peace but here on earth Barbara will be forever fondly remembered and missed.

Mrs. Brown was always an inspiration, full of life and fun. She was a dream to be around for all of us. My parents loved her, and all of us loved her. She never uttered a discouraging word in my presence. Mrs Brown was a lover of people and of life.
God Bless you all.

Dear The Brown Clan,
I join you in rejoicing your Mom, Grandmother and Great-grandmother. She has been a part of my life for all my life and I will treasure the memories of our families' close relationship.
To this day I can taste the Curry Chicken and condiments; the perfectly prepared steak; the thoughtful gifts; her kindness to my David as he told her he and I were to be married. When she would have folded and sank in her despair, she chose to carry on and nurture her family with summer reunions and Christmas celebrations. Always with class and ingenuity she continued strengthening the foundation she and your Dad created. I know she was welcomed with the words, "Your job, Barbara, was well done."
My love to all, Ann

Brown Family,
Sorry to hear about Aunt Barbara's passing. Excellent obituary about a life well-lived. She was always a gracious hostess when we'd visit her, wherever she was living at the time--West Point, California, and back East.
My condolences to you all.
Regards,
Eric

Barbara was a wonderful person. A friend of my parents and a fellow DAR member. We shared some good times with common interests. She will be missed.
