Barbara Duman was a magnificent example of a human being. I absolutely would not be where I am without having had her guidance and mentorship through my teen years. But more than that, she and Gene were such a dynamic duo, and such a HUGE supporter of me and so many, many others. There were times in my life- both as a teen and as an adult- where I felt like Barb and Gene believed in me and cheered me on more than my teachers, directors, maybe even my parents at times. I know that I wasn't the only one who felt like that, though. They had such abiding love for each other, love of adventure and fun, an absolute love for their chosen profession and such a love for everyone who was blessed to know them and learn from them.
Chris, Eric, and to all her family and loved ones- you have my deepest sympathies. Barb and Gene are together again and having a blast up beyond the Pearly Gates. And I'll be sure to give them a toast and a nod on Beethoven's birthday.
