Obituary of Barbara Ellen Duman

Barbara Duman, 80, of Reston, VA, passed away on October 6, 2016 at Fair Oaks Hospital. She was born on August 17, 1936 in Massillon Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Jonathan Lewis Miller and the late Katherine Geneva Walmer. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years George Eugene Duman, Jr. She graduated from Fairfax High School and earned her bachelor’s degree from Peabody Conservatory of music where she also met her future husband. Barbara taught clarinet lessons to school age children for over 50 years except for a few years in the early 1990’s when she earned a master’s degree in music performance from Ohio University. She was heavily involved in teaching woodwind sectionals with many local high school bands and was the assistant band director at Longfellow Middle School for many years. She is survived by her sister Marjorie Jepperson, sons Eric and Christopher, granddaughter Olivia, niece Kristen, nephew Glenn, and two grand nephews. A memorial service will be held at a future date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to National Kidney Foundation.
