Obituary of Evelyn Althea Cloutier

Evelyn Althea Cloutier, age 83, of Sterling, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on December 12th, 2016. Evelyn, or "Nana", as she was affectionately known by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, passed away in her home surrounded by her husband and children. Evelyn Cloutier was born on July 1,1933, in West Warwick, Rhode Island to Albert Wilfred Patenaude and Florette Melvina Patenaude. She married Henri Gaston Cloutier, also of West Warwick, Rhode Island, on November 22, 1952, shortly after he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Together they raised 5 children while moving around the world as a military family. After Henri retired from the military in 1971, the family settled in Sterling Park where Evelyn launched a successful career as a real estate agent for both Dulles Properties and Long and Foster Realtors, winning several awards throughout her career. She was a talented artist who also enjoyed dancing, quilting, lunches with her girlfriends, and spending quality time with her family. She was known for her love of gardening, her fondness for elephants, and her passion for politics. Evelyn’s grandchildren shared loving memories that include thousands of hugs and kisses, lots of cuddles, butt pinches, sneaking candy to the grand kids, baking her infamous banana bread and muffins, large family dinners, trips to the lake, family cookouts, and so much more. Their fondest memories will forever be the annual Christmas Eve gatherings at “Nana's” house and all the love that was shared in that home. In their words, heaven gained a precious angel. Evelyn is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Henri Cloutier, and their 5 children, Richard Cloutier, Denise Cloutier Hallett, Michael Cloutier, Donna Cloutier Quist, and Lorraine Cloutier Girolami, their 12 grandchildren, Michelle, Lindsay, Preston, Andrea, Kevin, Maggie, Brian, Kurt, Jennifer, Matt, Michael and Amanda, along with their 11 great grand-children with 2 more on the way. She is also survived by her brother, Joseph Patenaude, of Dayton, Ohio, and her sister, Teresa DiCarlo, of West Warwick, Rhode Island. She was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Derosiers, of Coventry, Rhode Island. The family will receive friends from 6pm until 8pm on Monday, December 26th, at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church in Sterling, Virginia. A funeral mass will follow at 11am on Tuesday, December 27th, with a reception to follow, also at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church in Sterling, Virginia. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Vitas Healthcare Hospice, 1604 Springhill Rd #450, Vienna, Virginia 22182 (checks to be made out to VCC) or Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
