Please accept my sincerest condolences for the passing of Doris. I worked as an RN with Doris at the ACU. She was a wonderful person, helped so many people (including me!) and she will be greatly missed by many. God Bless her and all her family during this difficult time.

I worked with Doris at Hospice. I'll always remember her as a good nurse, reliable and who always looked very nice. Since my husband and I now live in Brevard, NC, I'll be unable to attend her service on the 20th. But I'll remember her in my own way at the time. With heartfelt sympathy, Joyce

I, too worked with Doris on the ACU at hospice and she was so hard working and kind. She spoke often of her family with great love. She was very encouraging to me when I started work at hospice and I always appreciated her kindness. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Uncle Dick and Cousins Dan, Ben, and John, For all the years apart, you remain in my heart in a deep and enriching way. I am filled with powerful memories as kids, sharing great times around the pool in Herndon, talking with Aunt Doris in the kitchen, enjoying your humor, spirit and all your animals, and feeling a sense of family. Aunt Doris was so warm and loving - and beautiful with her bright red hair. I light a candle to her memory and for each of you, and send a prayer for the family. I hope we will renew our relationships and look forward to hearing from you. I live with my husband in Santa Fe, New Mexico. My email is ElizaWellsSmith@gmail.com With love, condolences and peace, Eliza

Just learned today from our local paper that my high school friend had died. Doris was always a special person - far more mature than the rest of us. Her parents and brothers were all held in high regard in South Hill. It appears that Doris had a very wonderful journey which is what all of us expected of her. Good bye my friend.

Dear Uncle Dick and cousins Dan, Ben,and John, I was shocked and saddened to get word today from Karen about Aunt Doris's passing. I am grateful to have spoken with her numerous times in August and September, when I got in touch with her about my mom's illness. In those conversations I was struck again by how she was so interested and empathetic toward the suffering of others, and so stoic and courageous about her own illness and those of her family members. My memory of her from childhood is always with some animal -- a cat, a chicken, a dog -- under one arm, medicating it in some way, while she bustled around taking care of kids with her free hand. She lived in service to others, and there can be no greater measure of a person's life. People in the community here would say she'll have a short journey. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Uncle Dick and cousins – I was so sorry to learn of Aunt Doris’s passing. I am thinking of you and send you my most heartfelt sympathies. I fondly remember the times I had with Aunt Doris and your family, in Virginia and when you visited us in NY when you “boys” were little. One of my earliest memories was as a 6 year old on the day my Uncle Dick married the beautiful lady with the red, red hair at a church near our house. With all warmest thoughts - Love, Landis

My prayers are with you all. It was a pleasure working with Doris, for many years, at hospice. My fondest memory was the hospice convention in Florida...so many years ago...we had a BLAST and she was the best roommate ever. My heart goes out to you. Love, Pam

To Doris's Family, I was a n R.N. who worked with Doris @ the A.C.U. for many years. I am now in N.Y. I was very heartbroken with her death. I loved Doris because she was such a strong and religious person. When I first came back to nursing, trust me, she put me through the loops. And I loved her for that. She so often spoke of John and her love of Family. What a role model. We all benefited from her wisdom. I cry with all of your family and I am so thankful that she touched my life. With lots of Love, Kathy Zarchin
