Obituary of Rebecca Campbell Montan

Mrs. Rebecca (Becky) Campbell Montan (age 90) of Ashburn, Virginia, formerly of West Caldwell, Verona, and Montclair, New Jersey, died on Sunday, July 16, 2017 in her home in Ashburn, VA from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease. 

She was born in Montclair, NJ and was the fourth generation in her family to live in Montclair.  Becky was the daughter of the late John Law and Elizabeth Campbell and was the wife of Jon Russel Montan for 69 years.

Mrs. Montan attended Nishuane Elementary School, Hillside Junior High School and graduated from Montclair High School in 1944.  While attending Nishuane, she met her husband-to-be, Jon Montan, in the first grade.  After graduating from M.H.S., she attended Berkeley Secretarial School and became the secretary to the Director of the Brookside School in Montclair.

She was the former President of the PTA at Bradford Elementary School, one of the original telephone squad members of the Montclair Volunteer Ambulance Unit, a member of the Women’s Guild, a Deaconess at the First Congregational Church, and a member of the Junior League of Montclair.  She also belonged to the Montclair Historical Society and was a volunteer at Mountainside Hospital for over 62 years.

She was predeceased by a grandson, Thomas C. Montan, a son, Peter C. Montan, and a brother, John Law Campbell, Jr.  Survivors include her husband, Jon Russel Montan of Ashburn, VA, a son, Jon Russel Montan, Jr. (Kathleen) of Canton, NY, a daughter, Sally Redfern Lyver (nee Montan) (John) of Herndon, VA, three grandchildren, Stephanie Rebecca Redfern of Arlington, VA, Andrew Gardiner Redfern of Herndon, VA, and Christopher Scott Montan of Rowe, MA, a sister, Elizabeth (Babe) Pugh (Thomas) of Guilford, CT, and a sister-in-law, Judith Campbell of New Providence, NJ.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 11am at the Restland Memorial Park Chapel in East Hanover, NJ with internment to follow.  

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the American Red Cross of Northern NJ or the Alzheimer’s Association would be appreciated.
