Obituary of Gayle McCollum King

On October 6, 2017 Gayle McCollum King lost her six year battle with cancer. She was 74. Gayle was born and raised by her loving parents Mary Gladdys and Charles H. McCollum Jr., M.D. in Ft. Worth, Texas and graduated with a BA degree from nearby TCU. Later she got an MA from the University of Houston. She taught ESL for middle school children for 18 years in Fairfax County Public Schools. Gayle was very active and avid reader and belonged to several book clubs, and enjoyed spending time researching and publishing family history. She had a great love of music and sang in various church choirs and was a long time member of the Fairfax Chorale Society. Gayle was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fairfax church. She is survived by her husband Fred, sons Jonathan and Stephen, grandsons Maxwell and Samuel, and brothers Charles and Richard. A viewing and memorial service will be held at Adams-Green Funeral Home 2-4 PM on Saturday October 14, 2017. Gayle requested that she be cremated and ashes placed in the UUCF Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Autism Speaks or other Autism Awareness group.
