Obituary of David Orville Ward

Ward, David Orville

It is with great sadness that the family of David Orville Ward announces his passing on Sunday, February 25, 2018, at the age of 64 years.
David will be remembered lovingly by his wife of 34 years, Mary, and his children, Kristen and Danielle.  David will also be remembered fondly by his son-in-law, Chris; future son-in-law, Ben; siblings, Paul, Chris, Carter, Melanie, Joe, Vernice, and Shirley; and his grand-puppies, Winston and Riley.

David was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, and friend to many.  He touched hundreds of lives with his contagious sense of humor, generosity, and charisma.

David retired from the Marine Corps as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2001, after more than twenty years of service, including as a combat veteran in Desert Storm.  A dedicated public servant, David also represented our country for more than two decades as an attorney for the Federal Communications Commission.

David was committed to education, both for himself and others. Over the course of his life, he obtained a Ph.D. in Information Science, Juris Doctorate, and M.S. of Business Administration. He developed comprehensive programs for students seeking advanced degrees in information science and regularly helped students grow in their understanding of complex issues in cybersecurity.
David was a light to all who knew him and will be dearly missed.  In death, as in life, Semper Fi!

Graveside interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at 9:00 AM with full USMC military honors.

Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of David to the Wounded Warrior Project.
