Obituary of Dorothy Louise Watts

Dorothy Louise Watts, aged 91 years old, passed away Saturday March 31, 2018 at Fair Oaks Hospital. She was born in Big Timber, Montana in 1926 and grew up in Denver, Colorado. She graduated from Denver’s East High School, the University of Colorado and had a Master’s Degree from Virginia Tech. She was married to former Fairfax County Superintendent of Schools, D. Lawrence M. Watts. After her husband’s untimely death in 1970, she returned to school teaching and was a beloved teacher at Herndon Elementary School. She retired from teaching in 1989 after winning a long battle against non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Post-retirement she continued to enrich the lives of countless children and families by providing personal educational tutoring.

In sickness and in health, in good times and bad, in the changing seasons of the years she remained always the steadfast, loving, selfless person.- a good and faithful friend, a loving and kind mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Her smile could take the breath away from heaven.

She is survived by four sons, Greg, Rich, Andrew and John; three grandchildren, Matthew, Daniel and Elizabeth and eight great-grandchildren. She remains a testament to all of the “better angels of our nature.”
