Obituary of Marianne Hicks Higgins

Marianne Hicks Higgins, 76, of Sterling, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at 3:45 pm .  

Born on July 7, 1941 in Charlottesville, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Richard Adams Hicks and the late Marian Elizabeth Hamilton.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Garland Lee Higgins and brother Rickey Paige Hicks. 

Marianne graduated from Highland Springs High School and attended both Richmond Professional Institute and Northern Virginia Community College.  Marianne worked for over 20 years as a pre-school teacher, primarily at Sterling Park Baptist Church’s Mother’s Day Out program.  She also worked at times in the insurance industry.

Marianne was married to Garland Lee Higgins for 42 years prior to his passing in 2009. 

Marianne enjoyed spending time with her family, reading and attending musicals and plays.  Her faith was important from an early age as her grandfather was a pastor.  She cared so much more for others than herself almost to a fault. She will be deeply missed by those who knew her.

Marianne is survived by her sons Timothy Higgins and John Higgins and daughter Beth Higgins.  She was Nana to her three grandchildren Noah, Jasper and Meagan who were the light of her life.  She is also survived by her sister Nancy Hart, nieces Catherine Watts and Amy Jackson.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 23, 2018 at Adams-Green Funeral Home in Herndon, Virginia with Pastor William Attaway officiating. Burial will be at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at Greenwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia.
