To the Doty Family, I am so very sorry for the loss of Dan for you all. I am here for anything any of you may need in this tough time. I always enjoyed Dan at all the various sports functions we shared through the many years. We spent many years either in the stands or on the fields as backup unofficial coaches. I will miss him too. God bless him. Bill Campbell

Dan, you were one of the best people I ever met and worked with; not only in Chula Vista, but in my whole career. You were so energetic and kind-spririted, treating me as an equal when I was just a Trainee back in 89'. I always have, and always will, have an abundance of respect for you, my Friend. I'll keep you in my prayers, and please also do so for my Family and I; especially for our Son's safety as a P.A. in El Centro. You will be sorely missed for now, but we'll meet again someday. May God Bless You, Partner. Barrett "Cash" Salvato V-327, Unit 2-CHU

I was Dan's Field Training Officer when he first entered the Border Patrol. He was always one who stood out amongst others, the consummate professional. Dan was always the Border Patrol motto “Honor First”. I feel that Dan and I were very close but that closeness was emphasized when I as the Director of Air Operations for the area that Dan was the Chief Patrol Agent, we worked together very well and had a deep respect for each other. Dan will be missed by all who have ever known him. Please accept my deepest condolences to the family.

We are very sad to say good-bye to Dan. He was Garrett's very first ankle biter coach, which lead to many years of fun and friendship for our boys and our families. We share many fond memories of football and wrestling and will carry those memories in our hearts. I pray that these memories will provide some comfort, and a little laughter, to the Doty family during this sad time and in years to come. You will always be a part of our family and the wonderful community Dan helped to create.

Dan was the first supervisor I remember meeting at Chula Vista, and years later, as fate would have it, we had many 6AM cups of coffee in DC. He always had great stories that he told in a wry sort of way. One of the agents at my current station said that when Dan arrived at Swanton, he was in plainclothes watching the change of command ceremony preparation. Dan leaned over and asked "I wonder if this guy is worth it," to which this BPA replied "I sure hope so." At the actual ceremony the BPA realized that he had actually been talking to the new Chief! To Chief Doty's family, I can confirm, he was definitely worth it. I pray that time eases your pain. Your family is in our prayers. -Steve

Dan was a great mentor when I first came to Washington DC in 2004 and I very grateful to call him a friend as well. I really enjoyed our monday AM meetings in the fall when we discussed work quickly so we could cover Dillon's football games and my son's from the weekend previously. His favorite college team (OU) has a big fan looking down on them this year. I'll miss you Dote - Juice.
