Obituary of Marion Belle Garity

Marion B. Garity was born on September 21, 1944 to Ruby L. and James Clyde Tobin. She was the youngest of three siblings, sister Elizabeth Ann Tobin Griffith and brother James S. Tobin.

Marion married James K. Garity in May of 1963 and they had two children, Robert K Garity and Joann Denise. After her divorce, Marion raised her children in Vienna.  In the late 1970’s, Marion built and added onto her family home where she lived and cared for her mother through her later years. Her brother and sister lived on either side of them.  It was a Wonderful Family Homestead and the perfect place to raise family.

Marion worked for Morgan Stanley for over 30 years before retiring.  Once her children were off to college, she spent her summer vacations with her mother on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, her Heaven on Earth!!  Marion loved the salty breezes, the sound of the oceans crashing waves and of course the shopping!

On Sunday, April 29, 2018, Marion passed away and succumbed to lung cancer which had metastasized to her brain.  Just before she passed, she and her children were singing to Elvis Presley, The Platters and many others.  Also, they were enjoying stories and reminiscing from the wonderful times and days gone by.

Marion is survived by her son, Robert K. Garity and daughter Joann Denise Garity Barton, four grandchildren, Madeline Garity, Lauren Garity, Sierra Barton and Brandon Barton.

 The visitation will begin at 11:00 AM and the funeral service will begin at 12:00 PM on Friday, May 11, 2018 at Adams Greene Funeral Home in Herndon, Virginia with Rev. Donna Leahy officiating the funeral service followed by the Burial at Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Herndon, Virginia.
