Obituary of Mary Kay Cloney

MARY KAY CLONEY (Age 71)

Mary Kay Cloney a forty-six year resident of Reston, Virginia passed away June 22, at home peacefully in the company of her family. She is survived by her husband of 48 years Gordon J. Cloney, by daughters Maureen Janette Christ (Tom) of McLean, Va. and Michelle Margaret Cloney of Reston, and by two beloved grandchildren Alexander Constantine Christ and Lucie Lorena Cloney. She was predeceased by her dear sister Lorena Ann Beauchesne (Ray) her father Howard Francis Shepston, (b/ San Francisco) and mother Anna Lorena (Murray) Shepston (b/ Washington, D.C.) of Fairfax, Virginia..          

Mary Kay was born July 12, 1946 at Washington’s Colombia Hospital for Women. As her father was a U.S. trade negotiator, she grew up between Fairfax and Geneva, Switzerland attending the International School in Geneva, graduating from Fairfax High School, and then Ohio Wesleyan University.  Musically gifted, Mary Kay studied flute at the Conservatory of Geneva and later in the master class of Jean Pierre Rampal. Fluent in English and French she was assistant to the Director General of the United Nations in Geneva before marrying Gordon, international trade representative for the U.S.  insurance industry. They settled in Reston where Mary Kay was active in community service, taught flute, and is recognized as a highly respected Realtor. The couple traveled often in the U.S. and abroad with family and friends.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, friends contribute in Mary Kay’s memory to a charity of their choice.  A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Saint Timothy's Episcopal Church.
