Sharon was a colleague, mentor, collaborator, but most of all friend of mine at the USGS for over the past decade. I am so grateful and blessed for having worked closely with her over that time.
Sharon was extremely proud of several work accomplishments during that time period. One was the assembling and processing of images and pictures that went into a publication (UNESCO and USGS) describing the in danger World Heritage Sites - helping to choose the best images to help to bring the story/situation to life. Another was working with Rebecca Smith to build the most comprehensive high resolution vector shore line data set that the word has ever known. Approximately six months of her work life was devoted to digitizing, quality controlling, and providing her level of professionalism to this effort.
I had the opportunity to visit with Sharon a little over a week before she passed and although greatly weakened by the cancer, she was still determined to try to continue to perform the work that she had devoted so much of her life to and I delivered a few hard drives worth of data to her.
As others have attested, Sharon was extremely kind and caring and loved her family, sharing photos and stories about her siblings, her mother, and her children and grandchildren.
I love you Sharon and hope to meet you again one day

Dear Jeremy and Jason,
I will miss your mother’s laugh and her kindness and willingness to help others.
Sharon and I would share stories about our families and work-related topics over cups of coffee each morning at USGS. Sharon’s face would always light up when she talked about her two grandsons.
I will miss having the coffee and lunches with my dear friend. However, most of all, I will miss seeing and talking with her.
Sharon will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.

I will miss Sharon very much. I met her when she first started to work at USGS and, after I changed offices, would often run into her in the USGS building. She was my coffee buddy when my office moved near hers several years ago. She was all about family, always asking about my children and sharing about her sons and grandsons. It was clear how much she loved her family. My condolences to Sharon’s loved ones. My prayers are with you all.

Dear Jeremy, Jason and family,
I was very sorry to hear of your sad news. Although inevitable, it was still unexpected. Sharon was a very caring, thoughtful and loving mother, grandmother and friend; and so she shall always remain in hearts and memories. In our occasional telephone chats, it was very clear how much pride and joy she had in all of you!
Although I'll be unable to attend the services, Sharon and all of you will be in my thoughts and prayers.
With sincere condolences and lots of hugs,
aunt Linda

I am so sorry to hear of Sharon's passing. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her. Her smile was contagious and everyone that worked with her knew how much she loved her boys and her grandbaby's. I have worked with Sharon for a few years and everyday she would share a story and a smile. My life is better having known her, but my heart is saddened at her passing. My love to all the family and friends she leaves behind.

To the family of Sharon Hamann,
I am so, so sorry for your loss. Sharon was a sweet loveable person, she would do anything for you. I am so thoughtful that I got to work with her at the USGS in Reston, VA and that we got along great. I am in a way happy that I got to say good bye to her at the hospital. It was sad to see her like that.
I will not be able to attend the service next week, I am going on my vacation, I can not get out of it. I will keep my prayers with you all next week.
Again, I am sorry for your loss Jason, Jeremy, and Donnie and the rest of the family I am sorry.... she is in Heaven now looking down at you all.
friends always,
Kathy Satterfield

So sad that she is gone from here but I know that she is with the Lord. I was fortunate to know Sharon for many years. She had this infectious laugh that would echo down the hallway at work. She loved her family so much and had a love felt desire to take in dogs that needed a loving home. May you rest in peace sweet lady.
