Grace, we are sorry for your tremendous loss. I knew Tom in college and stayed in his mobile home before he went back to graduate school. Tom not only was intelligent, he had common sense and had an easy going way with a good sense of humor. He was one of the kindest people I knew.
He was quiet and thoughtful and kept many thoughts to himself. When he decided to quit his job, go back to school and sell his mobile home, it all seemed so sudden to me, his other friends and his family. We really wondered if he knew what he was doing.
But Tom had been reading the book "What color is your parachute" and other reading sources, and looking into graduate programs for months. It wasn't a sudden decision at all.
It turned out to be a great decision that led to a much better and more satisfying career. It also led to his meeting the love of his life, Grace, and later having two wonderful daughters.
While many talk a good talk, Tom talked little, but was quietly doing things that mattered. He walked the walk as a father, husband, worker and friend.
Was I close to Tom? Not really. We talked about sports, religion, politics, girls, food, parties, and other such things guys talk about.
His quick comments and actions, though, revealed the tip of an iceberg. Tom was a deep thinker.
He was a great guy and that was easily apparent to all his friends.
He didn't automatically go with the crowd, but often led the crowd without the crowd often even realizing it.
There were few people that have his class and he will be greatly missed.

I worked with Tom from 2011 to 2014 at Transportation Security Administration (TSA. He was such a kind and quiet soul. He was such an expert as an Oracle DBA. I am grateful to have met and worked with Tom. May God give you sweet peace and comfort at this difficult time.

I am sorry for your loss and this was shocking and tragic to everyone who knew him at work. Tom was kind and well-liked by all his colleagues. The Director of the agency sent an email about the initial incident. We prayed he would heal at home and be back in no time but learned that his recovery took a tragic turn. I did not work with Tom directly but knew him for a year and a half and he was friendly since the day I joined. I heard he was a valued team member who made important contributions. It was great to catch up with him everyday and after a weekend and he always talked about his family vacations and upcoming activities. Tom had a calendar on his desk and circled these important dates. I sat in the next cubicle to Tom and just knew he had a warm heart and was a caring person. Tom was proud of his daughters and always shared events going on with them such as graduation events and volunteering in the Olympics. He showed me an article his daughter appeared in with an athlete who shared a similar background. I will miss talking to Tom and everyone will miss his presence!

Dear Grace and daughters, my deepest, deepest sympathies to you and your entire family. I don't know the words to express my sympathies for you, only to say that, I can remember when my son's sudden death in 2015 happened and there's no words that can possibly express the feelings that one has. Knowing that, I just want to reach out to you and send you all BIG BIG HUGS, and know that I am here, how can I help, I feel utterly useless, but know that you all will be alright, all will be well, trust that it will. Grace, Hanna and Lan
There are no words at a time like this...you have lost a true life's partner and wonderful Dad. We have lost a wonderful friend and the community has lost the gentlest and kindest of men.
We find some peace in being better for having had him in my lives and knowing that Tom will live on in his 3 beautiful girls.
