Obituary of Thomas Felix Hogarty
Thomas F. Hogarty, “Tom”, of Reston, Virginia died on Thursday, August 23 after a long illness.
His sons, Mark and David Hogarty; daughters-in-law Djenaba and Suneya; and his grandchildren, Sahil,
Meher, Kirina, and Mamadou Hogarty, joined his wife Marge at his bedside at Hospice in Reston Hospital when he passed away.
He was 78 and had been retired for 20 years from the American Petroleum Institute. During his
Career as an economist, he also worked at the Senate Budget Committee, General Accounting
Office, Senate Anti-trust Subcommittee, and Federal Trade Commission. He also taught economics
at Virginia Tech and Northern Illinois University.
Tom was a long-time runner, having completed 10 marathons and many other races. For a time
he was a member of Round I Boxing Gym in Maryland. Tom enjoyed major league baseball, reading, teaching at Osher Lifetime Learning Institute of George Mason University, attending plays and concerts, and traveling with his wife of 53 years.
Born in New York City, he completed his undergraduate degree at Holy Cross College in Massachusetts
and received his Ph.D in economics from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
A grave-side memorial service will be held Saturday, September 1 at Holy Cross Abbey in Berryville, Virginia at 11:00am.
