Obituary of Paul Robert Holland

Paul Robert Holland, III, 66, of Herndon, VA passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2018.

Born in Gastonia, NC on September 29, 1952 he was the son of the late Paul Robert Holland Jr. and the late Jacquelynne Cairns Holland. 

He is survived by his wife of 43 years Laurie Wiklund Holland, his children Cynthia Holland Darnell (Kirk), Jennifer Holland Guevarra (Ferdinand), Matthew Holland (Maranda), and Meghan Holland, and his sister Gwendolyn Holland Greathouse. He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren Daren, Jake, Topher, and Lily Darnell of Roanoke, VA; Gabriel and Madeleine Guevarra of Sterling, VA; and Addi, Noah, Riley, and Lincoln Holland of Tacoma, WA.

Paul graduated in 1974 from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA. He received advanced degrees from University of Baltimore and University of Southern California. He served in the United States Army Military Police Corp attaining the rank of Captain from 1974-1986 and served an unaccompanied tour of duty in Korea. During his military career he and his wife Laurie lived in Ft. Meade, MD, Ft. McClellan, AL, Ft. Benning, GA, and Ft. Leavenworth, KS. In 1986 they settled in Northern VA where they lived until his death. Post military career he worked for BDM, Logicon, and Northrop Grumman as a government contractor. Paul loved coaching his boys travel soccer team in Herndon, VA for many years and had a warm heart for dogs, having many beloved dogs throughout the years and is survived by his two rescue dogs Rascal and Max. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, talking, playing, shooting fireworks, watching their sports games and meets and watching the Redskins – he was forever a devoted fan. He and Laurie had looked forward to retiring to Roanoke, VA one day.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM on Monday, November 19, 2018 at Adams Green Funeral Home. 

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, November 19, 2018 at Adams Green Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to City Dogs Rescue at 2121 Decatur Place, NW Unit #3, Washington, DC 20008.
