Dear family,
I was saddened to hear that my childhood friend has passed away. Ronnie and I attended Wesley AME Zion church in Burlington, NJ as young kids in the mid 60's until we became young adults. Our Pastor was the late Bishop Enoch B. Rochester. Ronnie and I were very involved in both sunday school and church. Ronnie was always such a nice person with a beautiful spirit. His mom, the late Carolyn Chaney was one of our sunday school teachers and also had a beautiful spirit. My thoughts and prayers are with you all and I pray that God will comfort you during this difficult time. My God bless the soul of my dear beautiful friend.

I extend my sympathy to Ron’s family. My brother Greg used to tell me about Ron, who was still working overseas. This summer Greg and his wife came to the U.S. and we went to visit Ron and met his wife and his son. A very nice man. God Bless you All with Love and His Peace.

My deepest condolences for your loss. Ron and I went through language school together, played and coached football together, and lived across the hall from each in Sullivan Heights in Augsburg. Ron was a wonderful man and soldier. We had good times at Ft Huachuca, AZ. My wife Diane has already mentioned his introducing us to Vinni’s hot wings. I had the pleasure of riding my Cavalry horse over to his quarters for a birthday party and let the kids have rides. Watching MJ’s Thriller with him and the kids is a fond memory.
He was a very good man.

Knew your husband/father as an excellent athlete for the 1st Ops BN in Augsburg, Germany while we were all stationed there in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He was a nice man and will be missed.

Ron was a father figure to me in ways I’m still unpacking as an adult. He was such a steady figure in my life during my youth. We called him my Godfather from such an early age that I eventually thought he really was and forgot that it was just something we said to describe how close our families were. I’ll never forget seeing his retirement ceremony in Monterey, CA. To see so many soldiers on that field paying their respects to a man I already greatly admired really left an impact on me. I regret not seeing him more as an adult, but every time we got together it was like no time had passed at all. He had such a knack for makin everyone around him feel like they were special. We’ve all lost an incredible, radiant human being, and he will be sorely missed.

I am stunned to hear of the passing of Ron. He and I had been friends since 1979 and were stationed together numerous times over our careers. Although we hadn’t seen each other in years, we reconnected a few years ago online. Ron was my team mate in sports, my coach in football and volleyball, and a fellow soldier, but more importantly, Ron was my friend. My family is devastated to hear of his death but know he faced it the same way he faced everything - with a smile on his face and a laugh. Godspeed, Ron. We loved you.

Ron came into my life last year when his wonderful son JohnLei joined Herndon Navy JROTC. Ron immediately jumped in to help wherever he could with our many events that required extra help from our parents. Ron was at almost every event even when his illness caused him great pain. He pressed on because he knew how important it was to be there for his son, and for all the other Cadets whose parents could not be there. Ron is the epitome of the senior enlisted leadership that makes our armed forces so strong. We are going to greatly miss Ron's strong leadership and guidance in the NJROTC Boosters. Though we will miss Ron very much, he has left us a gift in his Son JohnLei and Wife Alia, who make our lives better every day. On behalf of all the Cadets and Families in the Herndon Navy JROTC, I wish Ron's family the deepest condolences on his passing.

Ronnie was the walking definition of what a friend is. My mother passed in 1990 and i hadn't had contact with Ron since high school when we graduated in 1977. He was at the front door of our house right before we left to go to the funeral to lend his support. An absolute honor to have known him. My condolences to his family.
