Obituary of A. Daniel Laurent

Alix Daniel Laurent, M.D., died at home on Tuesday, November 27, 2018. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Peggy Laurent; sons Phillip and Julian Laurent; brother Bertrand Laurent; sister Carell Laurent; sister-in-law Julie Thormodsgaard; brother-in-law Matthew Anderson; nephews and nieces Patryk Laurent, Daniel Laurent, Mark Laurent, Nicholas Zanusso, Caitlin Laurent, Hans Lellelid, Annalise Lellelid, and Heidi Lellelid; and a host of great nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Dr. Laurent was born to Garvey and Clara Laurent. The son of a United Nations diplomat, he grew up in Haiti, Ghana, Madagascar, and New York. He was a graduate of The United Nations International School, Brown University, and The University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. He did his internship and residency in Washington, DC, at the Georgetown University Medical Center and The George Washington University Hospital. After completing his residency, he opened his urology practice at Reston Hospital in 1987 where he practiced for 31 years. Dr. Laurent was an active and dedicated member of the medical staff who served in a variety of leadership positions, including the Reston Hospital Board of Trustees where he was the board chair for eight years.

Dr. Laurent had a great appreciation for learning and knowledge which fueled his curiosity and creativity. He had a tremendous sense of adventure and a wonderful sense of humor. He loved music of all types, cooking, driving fast cars, and traveling. He was a kind, compassionate person who was dedicated to his family, friends, patients, and colleagues.

              Funeral services for Dr. Laurent will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas à Becket Catholic Church, 1421 Wiehle Avenue, Reston, VA.  A reception with light refreshments will be held at the Church immediately following the service.
