MAL (MARION) G. KAVULAK On December 14, 2010. Long-term resident of Herndon, VA, Mal had been active as a volunteer in many of his children's activities as they grew up (e.g., soccer coach) and more recently had been a volunteer at the Air and Space Museum (Udvar-Hazy). Beloved husband of Linda Friedman Kavulak, he was a devoted father to Dian Zeller of Wyantskill, NY, David Kavulak of Fremont, CA, and Daniel Kavulak of Herndon, and a devoted grandfather to Ashley Hill and Dana Zeller. Viewing on Monday, December 20, 2010, from 6-8 pm, and funeral service on Tuesday, December 21 at 11 am at Adams-Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden Street, Herndon, VA. Shiva service to be announced. If desired, donations may be made to your favorite charity in lieu of flowers. Born in Ohio, Mal was a lifelong Cleveland Browns fan. After high school and college in the Albany-Troy New York area, he was employed by Behr-Manning, Schenectady Chemicals, and the U.S. Geological Survey. He also served in the U.S. Army, spending a number of years in the Army Reserves. Before moving to Herndon, he had been transferred to the Denver area, where he lived for a number of years and where he greatly enjoyed backpacking, camping, and cross-country skiing in various areas of Colorado. He read cookbooks like novels and loved cooking. He was famous for many recipes, including his eggs Benedict with homemade Hollandaise sauce. Mal was very proud of his Native American heritage and recently was able to visit the Czech Republic where his father was born. Mal was very personable and would always seem to meet someone whom he knew wherever he went. He will be sorely missed.
